Deidre Todd, Eastern Michigan Chapter President, was born and raised in Detroit and still resides in the area. While researching a community service project for her book club, she learned of Beyond Bedtime and instantly felt a connection. “I’ve always enjoyed reading bedtime stories to my nieces and nephews and now my own son. I am so excited to have a positive impact on my community via this program.” Deidre is employed at the University of Michigan Health System, runs two home-based businesses, and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Western Michigan Chapter

Deanna Roland, Western Michigan Chapter President, is a veteran literacy educator whose career has been dedicated to helping children unlock the lifelong benefits of reading through equity-centered instruction, family engagement, and community partnership. With more than two decades of experience in early literacy education and a Master of Arts in Literacy Studies, Deanna has served as both an educator and instructional leader, designing professional learning opportunities, supporting fellow teachers, and advancing effective approaches to reading instruction that meet the diverse needs of young learners. Her commitment to literacy extends beyond the classroom through volunteer service with public libraries, STEM community events, early childhood literacy programs, and organizations such as the Ladies Library Association and The Reading League. Deanna believes that literacy is about far more than learning to read; it is about fostering belonging, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. As Chapter President of Beyond Bedtime’s Western Michigan chapter, she is passionate about strengthening the connection between families and schools by promoting bedtime reading and healthy sleep routines as powerful tools for child development. Through her leadership, Deanna aims to expand access to literacy resources, build culturally responsive community partnerships, and ensure that every family has the support needed to nurture successful, confident readers.
